About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Liverpool secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace in their Premier League clash at Anfield, a result that was largely expected given Liverpool's strong form and home advantage. The game saw Liverpool dominate possession and create numerous opportunities, with standout performances from several key players. The match began with Liverpool asserting their dominance early on, and it was Alexander Isak (GAP +2.3%) who opened the scoring in the 35th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Crystal Palace. Just five minutes later, Andrew Robertson (GAP +4.5%) doubled Liverpool's lead with a well-taken goal, putting the home side firmly in control. Crystal Palace managed to pull one back in the 71st minute through Daniel Muñoz, but Liverpool's Florian Wirtz (GAP +6.2%) sealed the victory with a goal in the 90th minute, ensuring all three points stayed at Anfield. Liverpool's lineup saw two changes from their previous match, with Freddie Woodman and Alexis Mac Allister coming in for Ryan Gravenberch and Giorgi Mamardashvili. These changes were part of a tactical rotation by the Liverpool manager, who opted to freshen up the squad. Crystal Palace made four changes, introducing Ismaïla Sarr, Daichi Kamada, Jean-Philippe Mateta, and Adam Wharton, as they looked to bolster their lineup. The result leaves Liverpool in a strong position as they continue their push for a top-four finish, maintaining momentum with another solid performance. Crystal Palace, on the other hand, will need to regroup quickly as they aim to secure their Premier League status for next season. Post-match reactions highlighted the impressive performances of Liverpool's key players, with Virgil van Dijk (GAP +4.3%) and Ibrahima Konate (GAP +4.8%) receiving praise for their defensive solidity. The Liverpool manager expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus in the remaining fixtures. Overall, this victory reinforces Liverpool's credentials as a formidable force at home, while Crystal Palace will need to address their defensive vulnerabilities to improve their results in the coming weeks.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
